The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People -  PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST
In order to achieve our plans, we must organize our plans and put first things first. For maintaining the discipline we also have to find the power to do something that we don’t want to do it. Like Covey said; “The challenge is not to manage time, but to manage ourselves.” All our actions can be categorized based on two factors: urgent and important. According to this we can divide everything in 4 sections:
- The first one [DO], with important and urgent stuff, like problems that we have to deal about right now.
- The second one [PLAN], with important but not urgent events, this includes building relationship, planning and recognizing new opportunities
- The third one [DELEGATE], not important but urgent, like small problems often connected with other people
- The forth one [ELIMINATE], not important and not urgent, are all the trivial stuff and pleasant activities
Is natural to us to react to urgent matters, the first and third section, but this leads to focusing on events that are not important and are short term. And if we focus on the forth section, we will have an irresponsible life, depending just about the short term pleasure.
The second section is the heart of effective personal management, because it includes long term project and plans, that are harder to realize and require more energy and effort. To get our attention on this section, we need to learn how to say NO to other activities, also the ones that seem urgent. We need to schedule our priorities and learn to delegate to others trivial things but that must be done.
